The French department follows a course of study based on the National Curriculum requirements as delivered through the text “Camarades”.
- At KS3, we endeavour to cover a wide variety of topics while making our language classes as interactive as possible, emphasising oral and listening skills, as well as reading and writing. New language is reinforced by engaging pupils in games and group activities.
- At KS4, pupils follow the GCSE syllabus provided by AQA. Each candidate is assessed on the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- We also offer AS and A2 courses to post-16 pupils through the Edexcel syllabus.

| Our department aims to broaden pupils’ horizons by making them more aware of other European cultures and traditions. It also aims to develop a certain degree of proficiency in skills which most employers consider desirable: quite apart from the ability to speak, understand and write the language, language studies cultivate the ability to think clearly and logically, and accuracy in matters of detail. A qualification in French may eventually lead to openings in teaching, in the business and commercial world, in the legal profession, in international organisations, in publishing and journalism, broadcasting and tourism. |
