Ballycastle High School Science Awards

In recent years Ballycastle High School young scientists have won a series of awards which allow them to make the justifiable claim to be at the cutting edge of scientific education in the United Kingdom.

2008 Ballycastle High School were winners of the ‘Physics at Home’ competition sponsored by the Institute of Physics.
2007 Ballycastle High School were overall winners of ‘Paperclip Physics.’
2006 Ballycastle High School pupils were declared outright winners of the Junior All Ireland Young Environmentalist Award
2006 Northern Ireland regional winners of ‘Express Yourself.’ Ballycastle High School were highly commended in the final held at the Royal Institute in London, both for their knowledge and their enthusiasm for Science.
2005 Northern Ireland regional winners of ‘Express Yourself.’ At the London final Ballycastle High School were placed in the top four teams, and were highly commended for both their scientific knowledge and communication skills.
2005 Ballycastle High School won the grand prize at the ‘Northern Ireland Young Scientist’ competition and were invited to represent Northern Ireland at the British Association Science Fair. A second Ballycastle team came runners up in their age category. They also won the industrial award for ‘best laboratory practice’.
2005 The achievements of the Ballycastle High School scientists were featured in articles in both the Guardian and the Times Educational Supplement.
2004

Winners of the Northern Ireland heat of ‘Express Yourself.’ As winners of the national final held in the Royal Institute in London Ballycastle High School were awarded the title of,
Top Young Science Communicators in the United Kingdom.’

In September 2005 the team returned to London where they presented the Royal Institute Junior Lecture in the Faraday Lecture Theatre.

2003 Winners of the Northern Ireland heat of ‘Express Yourself,’ Ballycastle High School represented the province in the U.K. final in the Royal Institute in London to where they were highly commended runners up and placed in the top four schools in the United Kingdom.
