6th form 08/09
Prefects for 2008-2009

In Brief

Our year 10 Formula 1 team of Meghan McMullan, Jordanne Kane, Claire Kennedy, Craig Henry and Daniel Jamieson has scored a series of major successes in the finals of the Northern Ireland competition. They were declared Overall Northern Ireland Formula 1 schools champions, overall key stage 3 champions, and were judged to have produced the best verbal presentation, the best engineered and fastest car in the competition. The team will now represent Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom final to be held in Birmingham in the spring.

Once again the number of pupils entering year 8 has risen significantly and so large is our sixth form that the use of a fourth sixth form study which was introduced last year has been extended into 2008-9.

During the past year groups of our sixth formers have taken part in workshops along with students from Edmonton Canada, Gothenburg Sweden and the Governor’s Institute Vermont USA.

Sixth formers from Ballycastle High School, Antrim Grammar School, Cross and Passion College and St Patrick’s College Maghera have once again taken part in a residential conference to explore the theme of ‘Dealing with Diversity.’

The chief guest at Prize Day was a very distinguished former Head Boy of the school Mr Leonard Quigg who has recently retired as Headmaster of Coleraine Academical Institution.

The new uniform for girls which became compulsory for all girls from September 2008 has met with unanimous approval.

The Boys First Eleven are maintaining our status at the forefront of schools hockey in the province and indeed in their last three matches of the Prior Shield competition they have scored a total of fifteen goals while conceding only one.

The Music Department under the guidance of Mrs Elliot put on an enthusiastically received winter concert in packed Assembly Hall just before Christmas.
