Sports

The aims of the school's programme of physical education and sport are:

1. To encourage and innovate all pupils to participate in physical activity and gain enjoyment from it through gymnastics, dance, swimming, games and athletics through timetabled lessons and extra-curricular activities.

2. To contribute to the physical development and fitness of each pupil by promoting the acquisition of skills and level of competence in a range of activities and by encouraging pupils with particular aptitude to develop their skills to a high level.

3. To promote an interest in and understanding of physical activity and its contribution to the maintenance of life long personal health and fitness.

4. To contribute to the social education of pupils by providing opportunities to co-operate with one another and to gain a sense of satisfaction and achievement.

5. To contribute to the promotion of creative development and aesthetic appreciation of movement.

6. To help prepare pupils to make active and purposeful judgements regarding the use of their leisure time.

Hockey

Physical Education is an important aspect of the school's curriculum and thirty-two teacher hours are currently timetabled per week. The school's facilities include a gymnasium, an assembly hall/gymnasium, a grass football pitch and athletics track.

Facilities are hired to enhance the programme, such as:

- The Astro Turf Hockey Pitches at Coleraine University Sports Campus and at Antrim Leisure Centre

- The All-weather Hockey Pitch - Moyle District Council

- Tennis Courts - Moyle District Council

- The Marine Hotel Country Club

All pupils are expected to take part in the school's programme which consists of the following activities at either Key Stage 3 or Key
Stage 4:

Aerobics, Athletics Badminton, Basketball Cricket, Trampolining
Dance
Football, Athletics
Badminton, Golf
Cricket

Outdoor Pursuits - canoeing, hillwalking Netball, Swimming Trampolining


Pupils must be properly attired for physical activity. In the case of a pupil being physically unable to take part, a medical statement and/or letter from the parent or guardian should be supplied. Extra-curricular activities meet at lunch time and after school where the emphasis is on taking part.
